Section 57
Rights of Khantalasi
(1) If there is reasonable cause to believe that an offense punishable under this Act has been committed, an employee of at least the rank of forest assistant or an employee of the rank of assistant police inspector may search a place.
(2) According to sub-section (1), the person who conducts the house search should take the house search only by informing the owner of the place where the house search is to be conducted or the person who is using the place immediately before entering the place.
(3) According to sub-section (1), at least two witnesses shall be present and the search shall be conducted in the presence of those witnesses.
(4) If a search is to be conducted in a house where a man lives, if there is a woman in that house, she must be given notice and an opportunity to leave.
(5) Nothing written in this section shall entitle the search officer to enter a house occupied by a person from sunset to sunrise. Explanation: For the purpose of this section, "place" means tents, boats and various types of vehicles.
